The Best Historic Wedding Venues in Omaha NEbraska
Here’s a fun fact about me: I have always had a passion for historic architecture! Not only is it deeply inspiring to me as a photographer, but it’s also something I genuinely enjoy exploring, especially when I’m traveling to new places.
What I love most, though, is that you don’t have to travel far to experience it. There are stories and surprises in architecture no matter where you are, and Omaha, Nebraska has some true hidden gems! If you’re looking for a venue with a vintage charm and a venue with a story, read on! Here’s my four top favorite historical locations to get married at in Omaha.
Joslyn Caslte
With the Joslyn Castle as your venue, you truly get the best of both worlds. The building itself is beautiful, with a pale stone exterior and ornate details throughout the entire structure. The interior is full of natural woods, intricate tile, stained glass, and gold detailing…cue the swoon! Some rooms are filled with soft, natural light while others are deeper and more moody, offering a range of tones that would add depth to your gallery. If you’re drawn to old architecture, I would HIGHLY encourage you to visit before you book it for your wedding - make it a date day! You’ll not only get to see its design and history, but you’ll also walk away with a stronger vision for how your day can unfold!
The Joslyn Castle also gives you the option to have your ceremony or reception outdoors on its grounds, adding an entirely different dimension to your day. Their gardens are truly so lovely and are expansive enough that they begin to feel like a venue all on their own. There are quiet little spaces throughout the grounds that are perfect for a private first look or a few moments alone together. You can choose an open space in the gardens or set your ceremony on the grand entryway to the castle itself. The flowers and greenery change slightly with the seasons, so you can have a natural setting that reflects whichever season you’ve envisioned for your day.
Joslyn Art Museum
The Joslyn Art Museum is one of the most iconic buildings in Omaha. Not only does the actual museum portion itself add so much to your guest experience, but the architecture and grounds are stunning! Its look can be very modern, sleek, and light, while still offering spaces that have an art deco or more vintage feel. It would give your photo gallery a very refined and clean look while still having its own charm and character.
Ceremony in the Fountain Court at Joslyn Art Museum.
The Joslyn Art Museum has several areas indoors where you can host your wedding ceremony and reception: The Entry Atrium, Cafe Atrium, The Bridge & The Overlook, and the Fountain Court. Their largest space (400 guests) is outside in the Sculpture Garden where a ceremony would be set up in front of the Grand Steps. A lot of brides especially love this option because her entrance into the wedding ceremony is very “grand” coming down those stairs. It’s an incredible moment. Each of these locations can have a vastly different vibe, so there’s truly something for everyone! Say your vows in front of the Dale Chihuly sculpture, enjoy the light and airy feel of the main entryway, highlight the clean beauty of the marble columns and staircase, or celebrate in the Fountain Court room with its vintage, artful design. Each space brings its own character and can help shape your wedding experience in a way that is both personal and unforgettable.
The Durham Museum
The Durham Museum is housed in the original Omaha Union Station in downtown Omaha. This building is perfect for a ceremony or reception that will give guests a true WOW moment when they walk in! Its chandeliers, 65-foot ceilings, and grand architectural details create an atmosphere that feels so elevated and luxurious. While you can really match the space with dramatic decoration or florals, I love that it still can feel extremely romantic and intimate. It’s also perfect for a moody, candlelit reception or a ceremony that just compliments the beauty of the architecture itself.
If you’re a bride who dreams of a Christmas wedding, the Durham Museum is perfect. Omaha’s largest indoor Christmas tree is set up in the museum throughout December and into January! It makes for a stunning centerpiece and gives off a perfect warm winter glow throughout the whole space. Plus, if you feel like braving the cold, a snowy, twinkling downtown Omaha is gorgeous for wedding portraits! They also have a retro soda fountain, which is a fun addition to your dessert moment! Whatever season you choose, the atmosphere of this venue just has a way of feeling so magical.
